The German Bundesliga is set to welcome a new addition to its ranks as Dayot Upamecano has signed for Bayern Munich. The 21-year-old centre-back joins the Bavarians on a five-year deal, with the option for a further year.
Upamecano's move to Munich comes after a successful season with RB Leipzig, where he helped them secure their first ever Bundesliga title and reach the Champions League final. He was named as the Bundesliga Player of the Year for 2020-21 and was also selected for the UEFA Young Player of the Year award.
Upamecano's arrival at Bayern will be a major boost for the club, who have struggled defensively this season. The German defender brings a wealth of experience from his time at Leipzig, having played over 100 games for the club since joining them in 2018.
Bayern manager Hansi Flick spoke highly of Upamecano's signing, saying: "We're delighted to have signed Dayot Upamecano. His talent and experience make him a very good fit for our team."
Upamecano's signing is just one part of a busy summer for Bayern, who have also brought in a number of other high-profile signings including Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman and Robert Lewandowski. With such a strong squad, it looks like Bayern will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming seasons.
